Obituary

Zelda L. Keen, 80, of Jefferson Twp, passed away Monday afternoon, July 29, 2024, in her home.

Mrs. Keen was born on April 2, 1944, in Grove City, PA, a daughter of the late Donald A. and Frances V. (Adams) Buchanan. She was a 1962 graduate of Grove City High School.

In her children's youth, Zelda was proud to be a Girl Scout in Sandy Lake, PA and Boy Scout leader in Mercer, PA. She was also a "band mom" offering to transport large instruments when the band was traveling to events.

A proud homemaker, Zelda began working when her children were grown. She was employed as a cashier at the former McKean's Golden Dawn, Sandy Lake, and later, was a top-performing sales associate at Perfume Mania at the Grove City Premium Outlets.

Zelda was a member of the Red Hat Society, Roses of Sharon chapter. In her spare time, she found joy in birdwatching, knitting and watching old movies and detective shows.

Her husband, Vaughn A. Keen, whom she married on August 28, 1965, passed away on November 23, 2008.

She is survived by a daughter, Suzanne F. Keen, at home; a son, Douglas V. Keen and his wife Melissa, Sharon; a granddaughter, Meara Keen; three sisters, Pearl Wasser, Johnstown, PA, Roberta Barnes, Butler Co., PA, and Judy Irwin and her husband Leslie, Hadley, PA; and a brother, John Buchanan, Mercer.

In addition to her parents and husband, Zelda was preceded in death by two sisters, Doris McCoy and Helen Pipic; and three brothers, Wayne, Robert and William Buchanan.
