Yolanda O. Monteson, 2400 Garden Way Place and formerly of Hermitage Hills Blvd. and Maple Dr., all Hermitage, passed away
Thursday
morning (1-14-16) in her residence.
She was 91.
Miss Monteson was born Feb. 28, 1924, in Farrell, a daughter of Antonio and Carmela Cantalice Montesano.
She was a lifelong area resident and a 1942 graduate of Farrell High School.
Yolanda was a teller and bookkeeper for First National Bank of Mercer County in Farrell and Hermitage for 45 years, retiring in 1987.
She was a devout Catholic and a lifelong member of Our Lady of Fatima-St. Ann Church, Farrell.
An opera enthusiast, Yolanda loved attending operas and ballets in New York City and Cleveland and passed her love of the opera and classical music to some of her nieces and nephews.
Yolanda's life centered on her family-parents, brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews; family gatherings, picnics and trips to Lake Erie.
She was a godmother and a special aunt to numerous nieces and nephews and fondly remembered taking carloads of them swimming at the former Smelko's on her
Wednesday
afternoons off in the 1960's.
She also enjoyed playing badminton and croquet with her nieces and nephews in the backyard and traveling, particularly to Italy, California and New York City.
Surviving are: a sister, Virginia J. Joseph; and a brother, Robert J. Monteson, both Hermitage; and several loving nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews; and great great nieces and nephews.
Yolanda was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters, Lucille Gigliotti, Marie Williams, Margaret Cerroni and an infant; two brothers, Philip and Anthony Monteson; and a niece, Cecelia Cerroni.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Our Lady of Fatima-St. Ann Church, 601 Roemer Blvd., Farrell, PA 16121.
