Xenophon "Fonda" Karidis, of Sharon, passed away Monday afternoon, June 25, 2018, in UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh. He was 84.
Mr. Karidis was born May 22, 1934, in the village of Kalamitsi on Lefkada Island, Greece, a son of Stephen and Olga (Gazes) Karidis. He attended school in Greece and later enrolled in an apprentice program where he developed his skills as a tailor.
After immigrating to the U.S. in the 1950's, Fonda was honored to receive his naturalization certificate on November 14, 1960, officially making him a U.S. citizen.
Fonda owned and operated the Sharon Tailors tuxedo and tailor shop, downtown Sharon, for 10 years. He was previously employed as a tailor at the former Sears department store, Hermitage, for 25 years.
Fonda was a member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, Farrell, and the Shenango Valley Chapter 414 of Order of American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association (AHEPA). He was also active in the fundraising for the AHEPA scholarship fund.
Fonda loved to fish, visit with friends over a cup of coffee, and spend time with his family, particularly his grandchildren.
Surviving are: two daughters, Olga Chapman, Covington, Ga., and Stella Karidis, Sharon; a son, Stephen (Joye) Karidis, Pittsburgh; a brother George Karidis, Kalamitsi, Greece; four grandchildren, Alexander and Nadia Jones, and Zoe and Kristian Karidis; and his former spouse, Toula Hardesty.
Fonda was preceded in death by his parents and a sister-in-law, Dina Karidis.

Calling hours will be 11 a.m. until the time of service Friday (6-29-18) in Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 1007 Washington St., Farrell.
Orthodox Funeral Service will be 1 p.m. Friday, in the church, with Fr. Joseph Z. DiStefano, officiating celebrant.
Interment: Oakwood Cemetery, Hermitage
