Obituary

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Wednesday for William Louis Voyten of 7642 Haverhill Lane, Canton, Mich., formerly of Sharon. He passed away at 9:53 a.m. Saturday (3-12-11) after a brief illness. He was 81.

Mr. Voyten was born April 14, 1929, in Sharon, a son of Louis William Voyten and Barbara Ann Shacikoski Voyten.

He was a 1947 alumnus of Sharon High School and attended Gannon College, Erie, on a football scholarship. Bill graduated from the University of Detroit, where he earned a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering.

Mr. Voyten retired in 1988 after 35 years of service from Westinghouse Electric Corp., where he was employed as a marketing manager in both Sharon and Pittsburgh.

He enjoyed golfing and spending time with his family.

Mr. Voyten was a member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Church in Plymouth, Mich., and was a former member of St. Joseph's Church in Sharon.

His wife, the former Jane Lyman, whom he married Nov. 27, 1954, preceded him in death Jan. 12, 2002. He leaves three daughters, Barbara Ziberna and her husband Keith, Raleigh, N.C.; Carol Pisarski and her husband Jan, Canton; and Peggy Shanabarger and her husband John, Sussex, Wis.; and a sister, Barbara Wareham and her husband Gene, Sharon. He was the proud grandfather of seven grandchildren, Brian Ziberna, husband of Melissa; Matt Ziberna; LeeAnn and Katie Pisarski; and Rachel, Mary and Ann Shanabarger; and a greatgranddaughter, Caleigh Ziberna.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Arthritis Foundation, 100 W. Station Square, Suite 1950, Pittsburgh, PA 16219.

Calling hours: 9 a.m. to time of service Wednesday (3-16-11) in St. Rose Cemetery Chapel, Hermitage.

Service: Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. Rose Chapel with the Rev. Glenn R. Whitman, pastor of St. Joseph's Church, Sharon, as celebrant.

Entombment: St. Rose Cemetery Mausoleum.
