William Herbert Porterfield, Sr., 88, of Sharon, passed away Sunday morning, July 21, 2024, in Edison Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, New Castle.

Bill was born October 28,1935, in Sharon, the son of the late Harry and Amelia (Copper) Porterfield.  He attended Sharon High School and honorably served in the United States Air Force.

After 44 years, Bill retired from The City of Sharon Street Department.

Bill loved spending time in the mountains while hunting and fishing, attending his grandson's races at the Mercer Speedway, and cheering on the Cleveland Browns. He was also a long time member of Sharon F.O.P.

His beloved wife, Rose Roberta (Shaffer) Porterfield, whom he married February 14,1955, preceded him in death on July 1,2017.

Bill is survived by two daughters, Linda Kelly and Patricia Gammon; and two sons, James M. (Tammy) Porterfield and William H. Porterfield, Jr., all of Sharon; two sisters, Betty Mar King, Sharon, and Phyllis Hiles, Franklin; four brothers, Howard Porterfield and George Porterfield,  both of Sharon, Joseph Porterfield, Fredonia, and Francis Porterfield, also Sharon; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and wife, Bill was preceded in death by, a son, Daniel A. Porterfield, Sr.; a sister, Alice McKelvey; three brothers, Elmer Porterfield, James L. Porterfield, and Harry Porterfield, Jr.; a grandson, Daniel A. Porterfield, Jr.; a granddaughter, Alexandar Marie Porterfield; a great-grandson, Anakin Gammon; and a great-granddaughter, Deana Gammon.
