William E. Porterfield of 473 Sherman Ave. Sharon, PA, passed away on Tuesday, August 10, 2010 at 7:15 p.m. in the emergency room at Sharon Regional Health Systems. He was 77.

Mr. Porterfield was born in Sharon, PA on November 29, 1932, a son of the late Walter and Ruth Krothe Porterfield.

William joined the United States Army and served in the 7th Infantry Division during the Korean War from 1950 to 1951. He received the Korean Service Metal, 2 Bronze Stars, and an Infantry Service Metal.

Mr. Porterfield was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 327, Sharon, VFW Post 5286, Farrell, and American Legion Post 432. William enjoyed watching TV, spending time in the outdoors, and was known as a handyman.

His wife, Pearl Shaffer Porterfield, whom he married January 29, 1965, passed away on December 26, 2001.

He is survived by, 3 daughters, Brenda Porterfield, Teresa Dickson, and Barbara Porterfield all of Sharon, PA; 3 sons, Albert H. Kane of West Middlesex, PA, William Kane of Tennessee, and Kenneth and his wife Kathy Kane of Transfer, PA; 2 brothers, Edmond Porterfield of Ohio and John Porterfield of California; 9 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren.

Besides his parents and wife, William was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond Porterfield.

Calling Hours will be from 1 to 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 14, 2010 in the J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. 1090 E. State St. Sharon, PA 16146.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 14, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home, with Rev. Roy Shaffer.
