William A. "Bob" Pelini, 91, of Farrell passed away at 9:47 p.m. Wednesday, July 18, 2018, in his home.
Mr. Pelini was born April 24, 1927, in New Castle, a son of Gino and Alessandra (Pitti) Pelini. He was a 1945 graduate of New Castle High School. A veteran of WWII, Bob served in the U.S. Army Air Force and was stationed at the Capodichino Airport, Naples, Italy.
Following his honorable discharge, he enrolled at the California State University of Pennsylvania, receiving a bachelor's degree in education in 1950. Bob later completed his graduate studies at the University of Pittsburgh earning his master's degree in 1954.
An industrial arts and math teacher for over 40 years, Bob retired in 1989 from Sharpsville School District where he was an educator for 25 years. He previously taught in the New Wilmington School District for 9 years; as well as the Farrell, Brookfield and Braddock School District(s). Bob was a member of the National Education Assoc., the Pennsylvania State Education Assoc. and the Mercer County Chapter of the PSERS. An outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and woodworking.
He was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Church, Farrell.
Bob was also a member of the Son's of Italy, Sharon, and the VFW Post 5286, Christopher Columbus Society and Italian Home, all Farrell. He is a former member of the American Legion, Braddock, PA, and the Moose Club, Mercer.
Surviving are: his wife of 65 years, the former Charlotte Ann Amico, whom he married July 4, 1953; a daughter, Gina Marie Getsie and her husband, Brian, Farrell; a son William G. Pelini, Mt. Lebanon, PA; a sister, Vivian Sansone, Neshannock Twp., PA; three grandchildren, Audrey Rose Brandt, David Allan (Krista) Brandt and Donna Marie (Abdul) Ali; thirteen great-grandchildren, Austin, Travis, Selena, Mariah, Layla, Lyann, Mohammed, Alaina, Lujain, Gianna, Tyler, Abdullah and Charli Dee; and two sisters-in-law, Josephine Bello and her husband Emil, Hermitage; and Mother Gina Amico of the Franciscan Sisters of St. Elizabeth, New Jersey.
In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by two brothers, Arnold Pelini and his wife Rose; and infant Peter Pelini; and a brother-in-law, Thomas Sansone.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Our Lady of Fatima Church, 601 Roemer Blvd., Farrell, PA 16121 .
Bob's family would like to thank the Brittany and Amanda with Heartland Hospice; Patty, Nyia and Tene with NuChoice Health and the staff at Fresenius Kidney Care in Hermitage for the excellent care and compassion for Bob.
Calling hours will be 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday ( 07/22/2018 ) in the J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. State Street, Sharon.
Mass of Christian burial will be 11 a.m. Monday ( 07/23/2018 ) in Our Lady of Fatima Church, Farrell, with Rev. Matthew Ruyechan, pastor, as celebrant.
Interment: St. Anthony's Cemetery, Hermitage.
