Obituary

William F. O'Loughlin, Franciscan Manor, formerly of New Castle, passed away Wednesday evening at 9:07 p.m. in the Manor. He was 92.

Mr. O'Loughlin was born October 29, 1923 in New Castle, a son of Francis P. and Mary Agnes Masson O'Loughlin.

Having lived in New Castle most of his life, he was a member of New Castle High School's graduating class of 1941.

William served in the U.S. Army Air Core during WWII in the European Theatre. For his service, he earned the Good Conduct Medal, Distinguished Unit Badge and European African Middle-Eastern Campaign Medal with seven Bronze Stars. He was honorably discharged as a Sgt. On December 2, 1945.

William worked for many years as a self-employed salesman before his retirement in 1985.

Mr. O'Loughlin was a member of St. Mary's Church, Mary Mother of Hope Parish, where he was a past president of the Holy Name Society.

William married the former, Cathleen Ann Blake on January 2, 1948, and she preceded him in death on April 8, 2010.

He is survived by: one daughter and son-in-law Maureen O'Loughlin Shank and Thomas Shank of Beaver County; a son-in-law, Michael Benedict, Jeanette; a brother, John O'Loughlin, California; four grandchildren, Timothy and Patrick Shank, and Brooke Benedict Catterall and Matthew Benedict. Five great grandchildren also survive.

Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Shelia O'Loughlin Benedict, a brother, Robert O'Loughlin, and a sister, Mary "Jean" Confer.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday (6-20-2016) at 12:30 p.m. in St. Mary's Church conducted by Rev. Frank Almade, Pastor. Entombment will be in Resurrection Mausoleum. The New Castle Area Honor Guard will conduct Military Rites following the Committal Service at the cemetery.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 111 W. Falls St.
