Obituary

William H. Moyer, 85, of New Castle, passed away peacefully surrounded by family early Tuesday morning, February 4, 2025, following a two-year battle with cancer.

Mr. Moyer was born May 31, 1939, in New Castle, a son of the late Herman and Margaret (Bowles) Moyer. He was a 1957 graduate of New Castle High School, where he met his beloved wife, Elizabeth "Betty Lou" Tyrrell.

Bill married Betty Lou on June 13, 1959, and the high school sweethearts spent 63 wonderful years together prior to her passing on August 6, 2022.

A professional truck driver and proud member of the Teamsters, Bill retired from Roadway, Inc. where he had worked for more than 30 years. He previously drove for Warner and Smith Trucking, Peter J. Schmitt, Inc., and Golden Dawn, Inc.

Bill was a member of the Holy Spirit Parish of New Castle – St. Mary's Church.

Mechanically inclined with a talent for fixing or building just about anything, he was a car enthusiast and enjoyed tinkering in his garage. A devoted husband and loving father, Bill's greatest joy was being a grandfather and he never missed an opportunity to support his grandchildren in their many endeavors.

Bill is survived by a daughter, Susan Santiago (William), of Canfield, OH; four grandchildren, Samantha Silverman (Samuel), Elizabeth Moyer, William Moyer, and Mateo Santiago; and a sister, Jean Rollins. He also leaves behind his beloved grandpups, Rico and Bella; and three great-grandpups, Foxy, Maggie, and Crispin.

In addition to his wife and parents, Bill was preceded in death by a son, William P. Moyer; three brothers, Robert and Richard Moyer, and Jack Maley; and a sister, Donna Kirby.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be directed to Bill's favorite charity, Boy's Town; online at: boystown.org.

In keeping with Bill's wishes, there will be no calling hours.

A celebration of his life will be held by family and friends at a later date.
