William L. Hutchison, Bentley House, Hermitage, formerly of Sharon passed away peacefully at 3:10 a.m. on Sunday (5-10-09) in Bentley House following an extended illness. He was 89.
Mr. Hutchison was born on March 3, 1920 in Sharon, the son of Orville and Chloie Livermore Hutchison.
A lifelong area resident, he attended Sharon Schools.
Along with his wife, he attended First Baptist Church in Sharon for many years.
He served in the United States Army during WWII in Edmonton (Alberta) Canada where he was a Military Policeman and was honorable discharge on October 29, 1945 with the American Theater Service Medal, 4 Overseas Service Bars, and the Good Conduct Medal.
He retired with more than thirty years of service from the former Sharon Transformer division of the Westinghouse Electric Corporation where he was a member of the International Union of Electrical Workers and the Westinghouse Clerks Association.
He was an active member of the former Sharon Lodge of the Loyal Order of Moose and held many offices including past Governor.
He belonged to the Veterans of Foreign Wars Hickory post 6166, Hermitage.
Mr. Hutchison loved bowling, and golfing and belonged to many leagues over the years including the Hickory VFW Golf League.
His wife the former Selma Freund whom he married June 28, 1941 in First Baptist Church, Sharon, passed away on July 3, 2001.
He is survived by his two daughters, Nancy Jane Harmony and her husband Thomas, Rowlett, Texas, and Shirley Riffle and her husband Timith L., Sharon; a sister Jacqueline Shaffer, Hermitage, five grandchildren, Kimberly Harmony and her companion Damon Hardy, Jason Harmony and his wife Angelina, and Kyle, Jesse, and Jason Riffle; four great grandchildren, Linda and Braeden Hardy, and McKenna and Morgan Harmony. He was also survived by his nephew who he thought of as a son, Jack Lees and his wife Ruth, Warren, Ohio.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Shirley Negrea, and Betty Sulek, and an infant son Gerald William Hutchison.
In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the First Baptist Church 301 W. State St., P. O. Box 635 Sharon, Pa. 16146.
