Obituary

William N. George, 66 Birchwood Dr. Transfer, passed away at 12:27 p.m. Sunday, April 1, 2012, in the emergency room of Sharon Regional Health Systems. He was 81.

Mr. George was born July 20, 1930 in Sharon, a son of the late Ralph and Lois Bishop George.

He was a lifelong area resident and a 1949 alumna of Sharon High School.

Mr. George served in the United States Navy from 1951 to 1954. He then reenlisted in the United States Army from 1954 to 1956. During his time in the service, William received his pistol marksman medal and good conduct medal.

William obtained his Journeymen Card at the age of 17. He was the last original member of I.B.E.W Local 712. Through out his career he was employed as an electrician for Pic and Yobe Electrical, also Shippingport Atomic Power Station.

He also was a part time police officer for Sharpsville and Buhl Park. Earlier in life William was involved in Sharpsville Boosters and the Sharon Football Team ? Touchdown Club. He enjoyed working on jigsaw puzzles and woodworking, playing golf, basketball, traveling and collecting NASCAR Memorabilia. Most importantly he loved spending time with his great grandson Jackson.

His first wife, Normajean Sipotz George, whom he married November 12, 1949, passed away on March 3, 1998.

Surviving are: his wife, Verna Workman George, whom he married July 25, 1999; 5 daughters, Barb Dorogy of Henderson, NV, Sandy George and her companion John DiGiandomenico of Sharpsville, Christine Gould of Sharon, Amy Creed and her fiancé Chris Utz of Sharpsville, and Tamela and her husband Paul Hartwick of Sharpsville; a son, James Smith of New Castle. 5 grandchildren, Melissa Dorogy, Brittney Dorogy, Allison Sanitate, Paul Sanitate, and Alyssa Creed; 5 great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and first wife, William is preceded in death by a brother, Ralph George Jr.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Sharon Regional Hospice and Palliative Care, 2320 Highland Rd., Hermitage, PA 16148.

Calling hours will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 4, 2012, in the J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon.

A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, April 5, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
