William C. Campbell, of New Wilmington, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday morning December 29, 2015. He was 72.
Bill was born in New Castle on February 16, 1943 to the late Ralph and Sarah Jane Sharp Campbell.
He is a 1961 graduate of New Castle High School, and later graduated from the Pennsylvania State Policy Academy, Hershey, PA.
Bill served as a Trooper in the Pennsylvania State Police for multiple decades, stationed at both the Gibsonia and then the Mercer barracks before his retirement. During Bills many years of service he was stationed in Hershey, PA with the Tactical Mounted Patrol training horses and performing mounted detail patrol duties. Upon his return to the Mercer Barracks to be closer to his family, he administered drivers' license exams, as well as performing patrol duties.
He was a member of the Cultured German Society, the Fraternal Order of Police, and also served on the Board of Directors at Fair Oaks Cemetery in New Wilmington.
Bill was very fond of his nieces and nephews. He had a very active role in their lives, and cherished the many good times and memories they had together. Bill enjoyed riding his motorcycle and driving his mustang convertible. He loved to spend time on his lake fishing with his family and boating with friends on Lake Erie. Bill came to appreciate the time he spent with his friends in the Amish Community and making himself available to them; he truly loved life on the farm in New Wilmington.
Bill is survived by one sister; Sarah "Sally" Luca and her husband Thomas R., Sr., two brothers; Thomas E. Campbell and his wife Patricia of Punta Gorda, FL, and James S. Campbell of West Middlesex, two nephews; Michael Campbell and Thomas Luca Jr., two nieces; Stacey Wiles and Michele Luca, along with several great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
The family suggests memorial contributions may be made in Bill's name to the Fair Oaks Cemetery, 4242 State Rt. 208 New Wilmington, PA 16142.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Saturday (1-2-16) at the J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory Inc., 111 W. Falls St. A funeral service will take place immediately following visitation at 6:00 p.m. in the funeral home conducted by Deacon John J. Carran. Interment will be in Fair Oaks Cemetery, New Wilmington.
