William "Bill" C. Mortimer, Jr. of Farrell passed away unexpectedly Monday (1-2-17) in his residence. He was 46.

Mr. Mortimer was born March 25, 1970, in Sharon, a son of William C. Mortimer, Sr. and H. Carol Maloney Mortimer.

He was a lifelong area resident and a 1988 graduate of Sharon High School.

Bill served as a fireman for the city of Farrell for 18 years. He became the Assistant Chief in 2003 and the Chief in January of 2015, serving until this past October.

Bill also owned and operated Jess's Restaurant, Hermitage. He had a love for people, and opening his own restaurant to the community was a lifelong dream.

As a young man he served as a volunteer fireman for Patagonia V.F.D. and continued to do so for many years. Bill enjoyed playing summer league softball and coaching his step-daughter's softball teams.

He was an avid Cleveland sports fan and loved riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle alongside his friends.

Bill enjoyed the time he was able to spend with his family, particularly at summer cookouts while grilling and cooking BBQ on the spit.

Surviving are: his wife, the former Marcy Colello, whom he married April 24, 2010; two step-daughters, Miranda and Marisa Torok; Farrell, two sisters, Becky Kowalski and her husband Chuck, Sharon; and Dottie Myers and her husband Ronald, Hermitage. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents.

Calling hours will be 2 p.m. until the time of service Saturday (1-7-17) in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon.

Memorial service will be 5 p.m., in the funeral home, with Rev. C. Charles Eckles, pastor of I.H.S. Gospel Ministries, Hermitage, officiating.
