Obituary


William J. Boyle of Hermitage, formerly a longtime resident of Sharpsville, passed away peacefully in his home at 11:00 a.m. Saturday February 4, 2017. Bill entered his eternal life following an extended illness, with his wife, Barbara, and several of his caretakers by his side. Bill was 74.

Bill was born March 3, 1942, in Sharon, a son of Thomas P. and Kathryn Seiple Boyle. He was a 1960 graduate of Sharon High School and attended Youngstown State University.

Bill is survived by beloved wife of 52 years, the former Barbara Valle, whom he married May 9, 1964. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, John W. Boyle and his wife Heather, San Antonio, TX; four brothers, Peter Boyle and his wife Carolyn, San Francisco, CA; T. Patrick Boyle and his wife Judith, Hudson, OH; Michael Boyle and his wife Arlene, San Francisco, CA; and Mark Boyle and his wife Marie, Cincinnati, OH; and four grandchildren, Benjamin, Elizabeth, Jonathan and Matthew Boyle. Also surviving are a large group of nieces and nephews.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved daughter, Ann Christine Boyle; and a brother, Robert Boyle.

Bill served as Director of Administrative Services for Mercer County, working in the Mercer County courthouse for 13 years before retiring in 2008. He previously had a long career in banking, serving in many capacities, including as a branch manager and loan officer at both First National Bank and McDowell National Bank.

Bill also had a long history of leadership and community service reflecting the values most important in his life, values centered around his family, his community and his faith.

Bill was a member of the Church of Notre Dame, Hermitage, where he had served as a member of its parish council and on the Board of Directors for the St. Rose Cemetery Association. He was previously a member of the parish council at St. Joseph's Church, Sharon.

Bill was the longtime President and a founding Board member of the Community Food Warehouse in Sharon. He served multiple terms on Sharpsville Borough council. He also had served active roles in the Sharpsville Service Club, the Shenango Valley Chamber of Commerce, the United Fund and the Shenango Valley Jaycees. In 1972, Bill was named both Layman of the Year by the Shenango Valley Christian Associates and Outstanding Man of the Year by the Shenango Valley Jaycees.

The family would like to express their deep gratitude and appreciation to Bill's faithful caregivers as well as the staff of Hospice of the Valley for their extraordinary care and friendship.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Ann C. Boyle Scholarship Fund at the Community Foundation of Western PA and Eastern OH, 7 West State Street, Sharon, PA 16146; the Community Food Warehouse, 109 S. Sharpsville Ave., Suite A, Sharon, PA 16146; or Hospice of the Valley, 225 Villa Marie Road, Villa Maria, PA 16155.

Calling hours will be 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday (2-9-17) in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon.

Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Friday (2-10-17) in Church of Notre Dame, 2325 Highland Rd, Hermitage, PA 16148, with Rev. Jeffrey Noble, pastor, as celebrant.

Entombment: St. Rose Mausoleum, Hermitage.
