Wayne P. Rust, Sr., 88, of Hermitage, passed away Monday morning, December 16, 2024, in his home.

Mr. Rust was born on May 5, 1936, in Hickory Twp., a son of the late Kenneth and Elizabeth (Klein) Rust, Sr. He attended the former Patagonia Elementary School and Hickory High School.

His wife, the former JoAnn Powell, whom he married on August 8, 1954, passed away on February 7, 2017.

He began his career working for his father at the former Rust Dairy. Later, he worked at the former Superior Dairy and ultimately retired from Dean's Dairy, Sharpsville.

Wayne was a member of Family Life Church, Hermitage.

A car enthusiast, he owned several classic cars with his prize possession being a milk truck he personally restored. He was also a member of the Shenango Valley Corvette Club.

Above all, he deeply loved his family and wanted all of them to pursue their dreams.

He is survived by two sons, Wayne Rust, Jr. and his wife Vicki, Sharpsville, and Richard Rust, Masury, OH; a son-in-law, Tracy Austin, Sharon; 10 grandchildren, Jenna Dunlap, who was raised by Wayne and JoAnn from a young age, and her husband Jeremy, Hermitage, Jessica McComb and her husband Patrick, Junction, KS, Jacob Rust, Hermitage, Edwin Luchey, Jr., Sharon, Dustin Austin, Transfer, Jason Austin, Sharon,  Maceo Austin, Slippery Rock, Savannah Klamer, Sharon, Natasha Brewer and her husband Mark, WV, and Raquel Hayes and her husband Cory, Liberty, OH; and seven great-grandchildren, Jermaine and Jeniyah Dunlap, Remington, Easton and Piper Hayes, Kyler Brewer, and Charlotte Austin.

Also surviving is a sister, Kathy Rust, Ohio; and three brothers, Donald Rust, Brookfield, Kenneth Rust, Jr. and his wife Janet, Hermitage, and James Rust and his wife Betsy, Mercer.

In addition to his parents and wife, Wayne was preceded in death by a daughter, Susan Austin; two granddaughters, Charlotte and Sara Austin; and a brother, Ronald Rust.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday (12/19/2024) in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 East State St., Sharon, with Rev. Michael Sabella, officiating.
