Wayne Craig Clepper, formerly of Whispering Oaks, Hermitage and S. Myers Ave., Sharon, where he was a longtime resident, passed away at 7:35 p.m. Tuesday, October 2, 2012, in John XXIII Home, Hermitage. He was 86. Mr. Clepper was born July 31, 1926 in Apollo, PA a son Ralph P. and Helen M. Rose Clepper. He was a 1944 graduate of Apollo High School and served with the U.S. Army Air Corp. in Guam during WW II. Following the war, he enrolled in Thiel College, Greenville, and in 1951 earned a B.S. Degree in Economics. While at Thiel he was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity. Wayne retired in 1988 from the former Mellon Bank, Sharon, where he was a Vice President and Loan Officer for more than 26 years. Prior to his banking career, he worked at the former Elliott Finucane Accounting Firm in Sharon for seven years. He was a member and former officer of the BPOE, Lodge 103 and the Lion's Club; and a member of the VFW, Post 1338, all Sharon. He was also a member and former treasurer of the Board of Directors for the Shenango Valley Community Library. Wayne enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, bowling, playing cards and jigsaw puzzles. Surviving are: his wife of 60 years, the former Elizabeth J. Crawford, whom he married August 18, 1952; six children, Patricia J. Sanderson and her husband Richard, Butler, PA; Gregory W. Clepper and his wife C. Minnette, Saegertown, PA; Timothy Lee Clepper and his companion Jill Callahan, Sharpsville; twins, Brian S. Clepper and his wife Jestina, Sharon; and Brenda S. McConnell and her husband Timothy, West Middlesex; and Mary Beth Dixon and her husband Joel, Mechanicsburg, PA; nine grandchildren, Sara Romanyak, Christine Bellis, Aaron Clepper, Alyse Richmond, Nathaniel Clepper, Rebecca Clepper, Jason Clepper, Annamarie Phillips and Nicholas Clepper; three great grandchildren, Kelsey Phillips, Natalia Clepper and Cameron Phillips; a brother-in-law, Donald Crawford, formerly of Apollo; a niece; and 5 nephews. Besides his parents, Wayne was preceded in death by a sister, Hester "Jayne" Jones; and a brother, Vinton Clepper who died in infancy. The family suggests memorial contribution be made to John XXIII Home, 2250 Shenango Valley Freeway, Hermitage, PA 16148.
