Walter E. Ulasz, 1019 Smith Ave., Hermitage, passed away peacefully at 2:05 p.m. Wednesday (3-2-11) in UPMC Horizon Hospital, Farrell, with his loving family at his side, following a courageous battle with cancer. He was 58.
Mr. Ulasz was born July 26, 1952 in Sharon a son of Walter and Margaret Bohach Ulasz.
He attended Farrell High School and received an associate degree in engineering from Penn State University, Shenango campus.
Walt was a foreman at Steelite in Wheatland where he was employed for twenty-five years before working for Physician's Billing Specialist in Hermitage. He was a member of the Veteran's of Foreign Wars, Post 5286, Farrell. Walt loved playing the guitar and harmonica. He enjoyed woodworking and made guitars and custom corn hole boards. Before a back injury, he was an avid golfer and also made and repaired golf clubs. He was a fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and NASCAR, however, his greatest joy was the time he shared with his family, particularly his daughters who were so proud of their dad.
Surviving are: his wife of forty years, the former Leisa Price, whom he married November 14, 1970; four daughters whom he adored, Stephanie Worona and her husband Chris, Hermitage; Jeanne Ulasz and her companion Tony Preston, Sharon; Elizabeth Ulasz and her boyfriend Matt Holiga, Hermitage; and Suzy Ulasz, at home; a brother, David Ulasz and his wife Fay Barker, Hermitage; his father-in-law, Richard Price, Wheatland; several sisters and brothers-in-law whom he considered siblings; nieces, nephews; and great nieces and nephews.
He will be sadly missed by his family.
Walt was preceded in death by his parents.
The family would like to thank Dr. Aaron Listopad, Dr. Dennis Ulewicz and the Cancer Care Center, Hermitage, for giving him a chance to fight his battle with cancer that he so dearly wanted.
Memorial contributions may be made to the family.
Calling hours will be from 4-7 p.m. Friday (3-4-11) and one hour prior to the service on Saturday (3-5-11) in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday (3-5-11) in the funeral home with the Rev. Dominic Verdell, associate pastor of Grace Chapel Community Church, Hermitage, officiating.
