Obituary

Walter Evans "Wally" Scheid, Ph.D., formerly of Hermitage, Grove City and the New Wilmington area, died at The Rouse Home, Youngsville, PA, on the evening of November 11, 2018.  He was 81.

A resident of Western Pennsylvania all of his life, Mr. Scheid was born in Pittsburgh on May 7, 1937 to the late John Edgar Scheid, Sr. and Charlotte Irene Evans Scheid.

His wife, the former Karen Joyce Vorlage, whom he married June 18, 1960, died May 20, 2016.

Wally was a 1959 alumnus of Grove City College.  He later earned a master's degree at Penn State University and his Ph.D. degree at Ohio University, Athens, Ohio.  After receiving his bachelor's degree, Wally spent a year in graduate study.  He then taught at Grove City High School from 1960 to 1965.  From 1965 until he retired in 2000, he was a member of the faculty of Westminster College, New Wilmington.  After retiring he continued teaching at Westminster part-time for two more years.  At the time of his retirement, he was named Professor of Speech Emeritus and given the Distinguished Faculty Award, Westminster's highest teaching honor.

Wally was a member of the Hickory United Methodist Church, Hermitage; and Pollock Lodge # 502, Free and Accepted Mason, Tarentum, PA.  He was also a member of the Elks Club, # 223; and the Struthers Hose Co. #1, both in Warren, PA.

Surviving is a son, Eric Scheid and his wife Cynthia, of Warren, PA; a son-in-law, Dean Kind, of Slippery Rock, PA; two grandchildren, Layne and Logan Kind; and three great grandsons.

Besides his parents and wife, Wally was preceded in death by a daughter, Jody Scheid Kind of Slippery Rock who died on December 4, 2017; and two brothers, Dr. George R. Scheid and Dr. John E. Scheid, Jr.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Development Office, Westminster College, New Wilmington, PA 16172.

There are no calling hours.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Burial is private.
