Obituary

Walter Julius "Bookie" Brodie, 57, of Farrell, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, July 12, 2024.

Walter was born on January 13, 1967, in Farrell, a son of Henry Brodie and Bernetha Reed. He attended Farrell High School and graduated from Marshall Walker High School, Richmond, VA, where he was a standout football player. He continued his education and football career at Potomac State College, Keyser, WV. He also honorably served in the US Army.

Walter was a member of Cedar Avenue Church of God, Sharon, where he served as an elder.

He was a family man, taking pride in his son's and grandchildren's achievements. When his children were in school, he coached football and track and field for Farrell.

He is survived by his father, Henry Brodie (Ann); his mother, Bernetha Reed, all of Hartsville, SC; his lifelong soulmate, Karen Brodie; four sons, Walter L. Brodie (Destinee Jennings), Sharon, Julius Brodie (Amy), Sharon, Marcus Brodie (Kiara Cromartie), Wheatland, and Kevin Brodie (Nerissa Hopson), Sharon; nine grandchildren, Javon, Andre, Nyeasha, Avery, Karter, Maurion, Amari, Kevin, Jr., and Kameron. Also surviving are two sisters, Sheila Brodie, Hartsville, and Diane Brodie, Charlotte, NC; three brothers, Randy Washington, Hartsville, Ricky Brodie (Kathy), Richmond, VA, and Wayne Reed, Baltimore, MD; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Walter was preceded in death by a brother, Michael Brodie.

He will be missed by many.

A homegoing service will be at noon, Thursday, in the church, with Rev. Charles Johnston, Sr., pastor.
