Virginia P. "Gini" Spon, 74, of Hermitage, passed away with her husband by her side on Sunday, September 11, 2022, in UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh.

Mrs. Spon was born July 28, 1948, in Sharon, a daughter of Guy and Janet (Maiure) Zupo, Sr. She was a 1966 graduate of Farrell High School and studied for two years with the Benedictine Sisters of Erie, at Mercyhurst College.

Gini began her career in the mail room and eventually invoicing department at Sharon Steel's former Farrell plant, where she met her husband. Later, she worked for the former Ivor J. Lee, Sharon, Clark (PA) Trinity United Methodist Church, the former Book Rack, Sharon, and most recently retired from Disability Options Network, New Castle, PA.

An avid reader, she also enjoyed crocheting, especially hats, and was extremely gifted in making ceramics. She looked forward to showcasing and selling her crafts at local shows. Above all, Gini cherished the time she was able to spend with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, George Spon, whom she married May 30, 1970; her mother, Janet Zupo, Aliquippa, PA; a son, Gregory Spon and his wife Alyson, Nashville, TN; a daughter, Gina Girt, Sharpsville; four grandchildren, Mordecai and Silas Girt, and Roman and Luca Spon; two sisters, Jackie McFarland and her husband Michael, Auburn, GA, and Lisa Comer and her husband Mark, Elkton, VA; and two brothers, Ralph Zupo, Salineville, OH, and Guy Zupo, Jr., Aliquippa.

Gini was preceded in death by her father and a brother, John Zupo.
