Obituary

Virginia L. Manilla Galardo, of Sharon, passed away unexpectedly at 1:10 a.m. Tuesday, March 10, 2015, in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System. She was 94. Mrs. Galardo was born Nov. 2, 1920, in Davis, W. Va., a daughter of Sylvester and Angela M. Acquisti Wiley. She moved to the area as a young girl and was a 1939 graduate of Sharon High School. Virginia was employed at Sharon Medical Clinic as an insurance clerk for 10 years before retiring in 1976. A homemaker, she was an active member of St. Joseph Church, Sharon, and its ladies guild. She also was a longtime active member of North Sharon Fire Hall Auxiliary. Virginia loved spending time with her family, particularly her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her first husband, Joseph J. Manilla, whom she married Feb. 2, 1945, passed away May 9, 1967. She married Frank A. Galardo on Jan. 29, 1972, and he passed away March 26, 2000. Surviving are: a dear friend, John Piccirilli, Sharon; a daughter, Judith A. Fox and her husband, George, Sharpsville; a son, James J. Manilla and his wife, Renee, Hermitage; two grandchildren, Anthony Fox, Louisville, Ky., and Amanda Roeder and her husband, Jason, Neshannock Township, Lawrence County; a grandson-in-law, Todd Stefan, Bethel Park, Pa.; two great-grandchildren, Tyler Stefan and Noah Roeder; a stepson, Frank Galardo, Greensboro, N.C.; a stepdaughter, Debra Galardo Bender, Plano, Texas; several step-grandchildren, including John N. Carrier and his wife, Gina, Austintown, Ohio; and several great-grandchildren, including Roman Carrier. Besides her husbands, Virginia was preceded in death by: her parents; two infant children, Joseph Louis Manilla and Mary Elaine Manilla; two sisters, Jennie Walsh and Mary Crivello; six brothers: Samuel, James, Joseph, Roy, Michael and Charles Wiley; a granddaughter, Kristen L. Stefan; and a stepson and daughter- in-law, Ronald and Kathy Galardo. Calling hours: 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday (3-15-15) in J. BRADLEY McGONIGLE FUNERAL HOME and CREMATORY Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon. Service: Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. Monday (3-16-15) in St. Joseph Church, Sharon, with the Rev. Thomas Whitman, pastor, as celebrant. Interment: St. Mary's Cemetery, Hermitage.
