Virginia Di Alesandro of New Castle passed away of natural causes at 9:14 a.m. Thursday, March 12, 2015, in Golden Hill Nursing Home. She was 87. Virginia was born Oct. 20, 1927, in Ellwood City. She was a daughter of Albert and Joan Benvenuti Ricciutti. She was a 1945 graduate of Lincoln High School. She was employed by Morini Markets in Ellwood City and Mahoningtown for 21 years as a bookkeeper and cook in the deli. She retired in 1978. Virginia enjoyed gardening and was a wonderful cook. She especially loved cooking for her family and friends who gathered at her home on Wednesday evenings for a meal. She enjoyed reading and traveling, especially her trips to Rome. She was a member of St. Mary Church. Her husband, Nick Di Alesandro, whom she married on Sept. 23, 1946, died Aug. 9, 2004. She is survived by two daughters, Joan Louise Girardi and her husband, James, of Manassas, Va., and Marie Di Alesandro of New Castle; four sons, Nick Di Alesandro and his wife, Virginia, of New Castle, Gerald Di Alesandro and his wife, Carol, of Pulaski, Phillip Di Alesandro of Erie and Mark Di Alesandro and his wife, Rhonda, of Waynesburg, Pa.; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Jean Cannarozzi, Mary Cisco and Lisa Morini, and a brother Sam Ricciuti. Calling hours are 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, March 15, at the J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory Inc. 111 W. Falls St. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday in St. Mary Church with the Rev. Larry Adams, parochial vicar, as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery following Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the New Castle Public Library, 207 E. North St., New Castle, Pa. 16101.
