Obituary

Victor Joseph Veltri, 78, of Hermitage, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family Friday afternoon, August 30, 2024, in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh.


Mr. Veltri was born September 5, 1945, in Washington, PA, a son of the late Salvatore and Saveria (Matergan) Veltri. He was a 1964 graduate of Trinity High School, in Washington, and attended Youngstown State University.

Victor was of the Catholic faith and a member of the Church of Notre Dame, Hermitage.

A veteran of the Vietnam War, Victor served in the U.S. Navy as part of the Helicopter Sea-Air Rescue Force.

Victor worked as a project manager at the Eichleay Corporation for many years prior to starting his own construction business, Iron City Constructors, in 2002.

An avid classic car hotrod enthusiast, he found his true passion when he began restoring and showing his 1948 Anglia Racing Cars. Victor enjoyed hunting during the earlier years of his life and more recently was fond of fishing. He also coached midget football and little league baseball in Hermitage for many years.

His beloved wife of 52 years, Eloise M. "Ellie" (Shaffer) Veltri, whom he married April 15, 1972, survives at their home in Hermitage.

Victor is also survived by a son, Brian Moder (Lynette), Hermitage; four grandchildren, Mallory, Kurt, Brett, and Maddie Moder (fiancé, Steven Foit); two great-grandchildren, Aiden and Cameron; and three sisters, Dolores Wilson, Wellsburg, W.V., Angeline Veltri, Washington, PA, and Virginia Adamsky (Allen), Columbus, OH; a sister-in-law, Bonnie Shaffer (Stan), Hermitage; numerous nieces and nephews; and his two fur babies, Mia and Molly.

In addition to his parents, Victor was preceded in death by six brothers, Fredrick, Salvatore, Pietro, Paul, Eugenio, and Michael; and a grandson, Brent Lowe.

Calling hours will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday (9-4-24) in the Church of Notre Dame, 2325 Highland Rd., Hermitage. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.McGonigleFuneralHomeandCrematory.com.

Mass of Christian Burial will be immediately following at 1 p.m., in the church, with Rev. John Miller, as celebrant.

Military honors will be rendered by the Wheatland and West Middlesex Honor Guard.
