Obituary

Vaughn Dougherty, Campbell Farms, Shenango Twp., passed away peacefully at his residence at 12:40 a.m. Tuesday (10-20-09) following an extended illness. He was 87.
Mr. Dougherty was born February 4, 1922 in Bedford, KY the son of Herman and Carrie Ball Dougherty.
He attended both Union and New Wilmington Schools.
Mr. Dougherty had been employed at one time by Shenango Steel Buildings, West Middlesex, Pa and for the Hermitage Wal-Mart where he had been a store greeter.
A decorated war veteran, he served with the United States Army's Rail Splitter 84th Engineers Infantry and reached the rank of Sergeant during WWII. He was honorably discharged on December 30, 1945 with the Good Conduct Medal, the American Theater Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with three Bronze Stars, and ultimately the Victory Medal.
Vaughn was an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and trapping with his sons. He also enjoyed rooting for his Dallas Cowboys.
His wife the former Donna F. Huffman, whom he married March 20th, 1971, survives at home. He is also survived by a daughter, Evelyn Boots and her husband James, New Castle; three sons, Randall Dougherty, Beaver Falls, PA, Michael V. and his wife Christina Dougherty, Lackawannock Twp., PA and Shawn P. Dougherty, West Middlesex; a sister, Theo Miller, Florida; seven grandchildren, Kelly, Julie, Jacob & Robyn Dougherty and Ryan, Cara, and Taylor Dougherty, and two-great grandchildren, Morrigan and Colin Dougherty.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a sister Margie Dunham.

Calling hours and services: In keeping with Vaughn's wishes, there will no public visitation. A private grave side service will be held at the convenience of the family.
