Ursula Mae Boyd, 91, of 3533-4 Hunters Woods Blvd., New Castle, passed away peacefully the morning of Friday, Sept. 20, 2013, at Jameson Care Center. Mae, as she was affectionately known by her family and friends, was born Nov. 15, 1921, to the late Patrick James and Marie Daly McDowell. She graduated from Mt. Assisi Academy in Pittsburgh and later graduated from New Castle Business College. Mae married the love of her life, Thomas Muryl Boyd, on Aug. 4, 1947, and he survives at home. Mae was a former supervisor at Bell Telephone Co., later working at Standard Steel Spring and as assistant secretary and business manager for the New Castle Area School District. Mae was a member of the Polish Falcons and the Eintracht, where she loved to play cards, especially bridge. She enjoyed fishing in Canada and prospecting for rare stones in the Carolinas. She was a volunteer with the ladies auxiliary at the former St. Francis Hospital and served as a past president of the ladies auxiliary of American Legion Post 343. Besides her husband, she is survived by two daughters Kathleen (Tim) Glover and Sis (Eddie) Baxter, all of New Castle; a son, Dr. Thomas M. (Katy) Boyd Jr. of Boulder, Colo.; a sister-in-law whom she loved like a sister, Mary Alice Stoner; a niece, Roxanne Senchak; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Calling hours will be 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 22, at the J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, 111 W. Falls St. A procession will leave the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 23, for St. Camillus Church, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. by the Rev. Thomas J. Lewandowski, pastor. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.
