Timothy H. Hilke, 109 Hillside Way, New Castle, Pa. passed away unexpectedly at 2:00 a.m. on Tuesday (6-16-09) in Jameson Hospital, New Castle, following an extended illness. He was 60.
Timothy was born on August 29, 1948 in New Castle the son of Herman and Hazel Book Hilke.
He graduated from Union High School in 1968.
He was employed as a purchasing agent for the Lawrence County Housing Authority.
A decorated veteran, he served with the United States Army in the Vietnam War and received many service related medals including the Purple Heart, the Good Conduct Medal, the Bronze Star, National Defense Medal, and the Vietnam Service Medal.
He enjoyed cooking, especially for his family.
His wife the former Alice F. Kern whom he married on June 5th, 1971 passed away September 30, 2005.
He is survived by his mother, Hazel of California, a daughter, Erika L. Kirkwood, New Castle, and a son, Timothy H. Hilke II of Fort Sill OK; two brothers, 8 sisters, and four grandchildren. in addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his father, Herman Hilke, and father in law, Ray Kern.
Calling hours will be held 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday (6-18-09) in the J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home 111 W. Falls Street, New Castle Pa.

Interment will follow in Graceland Cemetery with committal prayers and full military honors being held at graveside.
