Thomas Dominic Masters Sr.

Thomas Dominic Masters, 79, of Mercer, passed away peacefully with his wife and family by his side on Friday evening, September 4, 2026, following a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Mr. Masters was born July 20, 1947, in Sharon, a son of the late Dominic Thomas and Marie Helen (Ontko) Masters, and graduated from Sharon High School in 1965.

Tom honorably served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps during the Vietnam War. In 1968 and 1969, he was stationed in Dien Bien Phu, Vietnam, achieved the rank of First Lieutenant, and was awarded the following citations: National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and a Bronze Star.

Following his honorable discharge, Tom earned a bachelor’s degree in business from Youngstown State University in 1977.

In 2009, he retired from Parker Hannifin, previously Commercial Intertech, in Youngstown, OH, where he worked as an accountant for more than 30 years.

Tom was a member of St. Bartholomew Church, Sharpsville.

He was an active member and past commander of the Sharpsville VFW, Post 6404, past member and commander of the Sharpsville American Legion, Post 162, and a current member of Sharon American, Post 299. Additionally, Tom served as Treasurer for Pennsylvania State Commander, Thomas “Ace” Hanzes. He was also a member of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV), a member and past president of the Mercer Chapter of Pennsylvania Federation Fraternal and Social Organizations, and a member of The Forty and Eight of Mercer County.

Always a staple of the Sharpsville community, Tom served as a Scout Master of Troop 45, enjoyed being “The Voice of the Sharpsville Blue Devils,” and was active in the Sharpsville Boosters Club for more than two decades.

His beloved and devoted wife of 52 years, Linda (Weber) Masters, whom he married on November 10, 1973, survives at home.

Tom is also survived by a daughter, Laura Masters, of Mercer; two sons, Joshua Masters (Dina Sorokina), of Knoxville, MD, and Thomas D. Masters, Jr. (Christa), of Mercer; a sister, Angeline “Angie” Gerda, of Mercer; a sister-in-law, Sherry Diurba, of Sharon; and three grandchildren, Dava, Kenlyn, and Joella Masters.

In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by three sisters, Barbara Seaholm, Johanna Pease, and Frances Reardon; and two brothers, Richard and Frank Diurba.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be directed to the Sharpsville VFW, Post 6404, 215 N Walnut St, Sharpsville, PA 16150.
