Thomas S. Duncan, 87, a longtime resident of Edinburg, passed away the morning of Thursday, February 16, 2017, in UPMC Jameson Care Center.
Mr. Duncan was born March 17, 1929, in Hammond, Indiana, a son of the late Harry and Emma Sampson Duncan.
Tom was raised in Edinburg and graduated from Union High School in 1947. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Era receiving an honorable discharge after four years of service.
Upon his return from the service, Tom was employed by the former Youngstown Sheet and Tube Co., Youngstown, OH. He was then employed by the United States Postal Service, and served as Postmaster of Edinburg for 40 years before retiring in 1989.
Tom was a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of Mahoning New Castle Lodge #243. He was a past commander of the Bessemer American Legion Post #638, and a lifetime member of the both the Crow Club and Johnson Club.
His wife of 59 years, the former Joan E. Leeper, whom he married February 23, 1951, preceded him in death on February 13, 2010.
Surviving are: two sons, Ron Duncan and his wife, Kathi; and Greg Duncan, all of Edinburg; and four grandchildren, Jessica, Matt, James and Sierra Duncan.
Besides his wife and parents, Tom was preceded in death by a son, Thomas W. Duncan and his wife Barbara.
Calling hours will be 4 p.m. until the time of service Tuesday (2-21-17) in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 111 W. Falls St., New Castle.
Funeral service will be 6 p.m., in the funeral home, with Rev. Bill Rupert, pastor of Neshannock Community Church, officiating.
Members of the New Castle Area Honor Guard will render military honors prior to the funeral service.
