Thomas Anthony 'Duke' Cogley, Jr., 2501 Rutledge Rd. Transfer, PA passed away unexpectedly of natural causes Friday (6-10-11) at his residence. He was 71.
Mr. Cogley was born January 18, 1940 in Groveton, PA a son of the late Thomas Anthony Cogley, Sr. and Ludema Mary Rehak Cogley.
He was a 1957 graduate of Hickory High School and served with the US Army Reserves.
Duke retired as a tank car fitter in 1984 from the former General American Transportation Corp., Masury, Ohio where he was employed for 23 years. He previously sold Kirby sweepers.
Duke was a gentleman farmer who loved gardening and cooking. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman.
His first wife, the former Peggy Lou Wilcox, whom he married May 14, 1966, passed away July 31, 1978.
Surviving are: a daughter, Krista R. Johnson and her husband Todd, Masury; a son, Mark A. Cogley and his wife Shanna Parker, Hermitage; a sister, Ludema 'DeDe' Marenchin and her husband Ernest, Hermitage; eight grandchildren, David, Katelynne, Jarrett, Kayla and MaKenzie Johnson; and Brendon, Jason and Logan Cogley; a brother-in-law, Charles Ference, Sharon; and his former wife, Sherry Jane Milliron, Chandler, AZ.
Besides his parents and his first wife, Duke was preceded in death by a sister, Patricia Ference.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Diabetes Association.
Memorial service for Duke will be 12:30 p.m. Monday (6-13-11) in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the funeral home.
