Obituary

Thomas Allen Altman of Ellwood City passed away on Sunday, April 3, 2011 at 5:10 p.m. in his residence. He was 55.

Mr. Altman was born in New Castle, PA on September 2, 1955, a son of Samuel D. and Nancy M. Stephens Altman.

Thomas graduated from Lawrence County Vocational Technical School. Following graduation he went on to receive his Associates Degree in Electronics from Pittsburgh Electronics Institute.

He retired from Penn Power- First Energy after 25 years of employment as a Distribution Specialist. Mr. Altman was also a cross country coach for 15 years at Laurel High School and an assistant cross country coach for 3 years at Neshannock High School.

Tom was an avid outdoorsman; he enjoyed hunting, camping, and fishing. Mr. Altman was an active member in the Coachmen's Club, Life time member of the NRA, and Duck's Unlimited. Along with being a sportsman he also was very active in running and cross country and belonged to many different clubs through out the area. Tom was a very giving and loving person. He contributed to many different charities such as the Special Olympics and different children's funds.

He is survived by, his wife, Roxana Hearn Altman, whom he married February 25, 1978; 2 sons, Clinton James Altman of Corry, PA and Gregory Allen Altman of New Castle; and a brother, Donald 'Duck' Altman of New Castle; Tom is also survived by his black lab, Misty.

Besides his parents, Tom was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Jane 'Toots' McCrumb; 2 brothers, Robert and Richard Altman; a chocolate lab Rufus.

Calling hours will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, April 7, 2011 in the J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. 111 W. Falls St. New Castle, PA 16101

A funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, April 8, 2011 in the funeral home with Rev. Ron Mounts, pastor of New Castle Church of God.

Memorial Contribution can be made in Thomas's name to the Coachmen's Club 1584 Patterson Rd. New Castle, PA 16101.
