Thelma A. Thompson, 82, of West Middlesex, passed away Monday evening, December 15, 2025, in UPMC Jameson Hospital, New Castle.

Mrs. Thompson was born September 21, 1943, in Sharon, a daughter of the late John and Margaret (Hickey) Matey. A lifelong area resident, she graduated from West Middlesex High School in 1961.

After high school, she received her nursing degree from St. Luke’s School of Nursing, Bethlehem, PA, and would ultimately go on to become a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist, of which she was extremely proud.

Thelma worked as a Nurse Anesthetist at many local hospitals, retiring from the former Jameson Memorial Hospital, after over 35 years in the field.

On August 20, 1965, she married her high school sweetheart, Donald Thompson, who survives at home.

She was a member of the Presbyterian Church of West Middlesex, where she also enjoyed taking part in the church’s “We Care” sewing group.

A talented seamstress, she lovingly sewed for family and friends, including her own wedding dress and her daughers’. She also sewed items for a variety of charitable organizations. Above all, she loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter, Theresa Hoffman (Dean), Neshannock Twp.; a son, Donald Thompson, Jr. (Rachael), Northwood, OH; two sisters, Holly Garman, West Middlesex, and Jill Wasilewski, Hermitage; a brother, Jack Matey, Lima, NY; six grandchildren, Daniel, Devin, Derek, Becca, Riley, and Natalie; and five great-grandchildren, Jayce, Nova, Julian, Brooks, and Meredith.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday (12/19/25) in the Presbyterian Church of West Middlesex, 3082 E. Main Street, West Middlesex.
