Obituary

Ted P. Nogay, Sr., of Hermitage, PA passed away Friday evening, May 18, 2012, with his family at his side, in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System after an extended illness. He was 87.

Mr. Nogay was born July 7, 1924, in Farrell a son of the late Peter and Josephine Koszela Nogay.

He was a 1943 graduate of Farrell High School and went into the military the day after graduation. Ted served with the US Army during WW II in the European Theater and was the recipient of the European African Middle Eastern campaign medal with 4 bronze stars. He was responsible for delivering medical supplies and during this time he saw his brother and neighborhood friends in France who were also serving their country. Following his honorable discharge, he returned home and was employed for 38 years at the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corporation, retiring when the plant closed in 1985.

Ted was a lifetime member of St. Adalbert's Church, Farrell, where he served as an usher for many years and was a member of the Men's Club. He also belonged to the Polish National Alliance and was a former member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars, Post 5286; the American Legion; and the New Deal Club, all Farrell.

Surviving are: his wife of 57 years, the former Helen E. Ritter, whom he married October 10, 1953 in the former St. Ann's Church, Youngstown, Ohio; a son, Ted P Nogay, Jr. and his wife Mary Lou; a daughter, Theresa Funelli, all Hermitage; and three granddaughters whom he loved dearly, Sarah, Maria and Olivia. He also leaves a sister, Estelle Konnen; four sisters-in-law, Rose Nogay, Sharon; Gladys Buksar, Boardman, Ohio; Marge Ritter, Kinsman, Ohio; and Louise Ritter, Canfield, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Ted was preceded in death by two brothers, Joseph and Walter Nogay; and two sisters, Mary Morris and Sophie Beltz.

Calling hours will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, May 21, 2012, in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon. Rosary by the St. Adalbert Prayer Group will be recited at 3:30 p.m. Monday in the funeral home prior to visitation.

Mass of Christian burial will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 22, 2012, in St. Adalbert Church, Farrell, with the Rev. Daniel Kresinski, pastor, as celebrant.
