Sylvia J. Chiodo, 1908 Mary St., Farrell, passed away at 7:30 a.m. Friday, June 15, 2012, in UPMC Horizon Hospital, Farrell, of complications from pneumonia. She was 78.
Mrs. Chiodo was born April 13, 1934 in New York, New York, a daughter of the late Morris Rueben and Elizabeth Joy Stewart.
Having been raised in Philadelphia, she moved to the area in 1950 and was a 1952 graduate of Brookfield High School.
Sylvia was employed for ten years at the former Golden Dawn Warehouse in Sharon before having children. She then served as the bookkeeper for the Farrell School Employee's Credit Union for twenty five years and retired in 1988.
A homemaker, she was a member of Our Lady of Fatima-St. Ann Church, Farrell. Sylvia was very dedicated to her family and work. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and loved to vacation at the ocean. She also had a wonderful group of girl friends who were very special to her and her family.
Her husband, John A. Chiodo, Jr., whom she married October 10, 1953, passed away May 6, 2003.
Surviving are: a daughter, Holly Maria Gibas and her husband Joseph R., Hubbard, Ohio; two sons, Christopher Charles Chiodo and his wife Maryla, Annapolis, Md.; and John A. Chiodo, III, with whom she made her home; and five grandchildren, James 'JJ' and Eric Rodgers; Christian and Michael Chiodo; and Maria Gibas.
Besides her parents and husband, Sylvia was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Gloria J. Barth.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh, 4401 Penn Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15224.

Mass of Christian burial will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 20, 2012, in Our Lady of Fatima-St. Ann Church, Farrell, with the Rev. Donald E. Berdis, pastor, as celebrant.
Interment: St. Anthony's Cemetery, Hermitage.
