Sylvia Blavos, formerly of Hermitage, passed away at 2:25 a.m. Sunday (10-26-14) in Mount Carmel West Hospital, Columbus, after a brief illness. She was 92. Mrs. Blavos was born April 28, 1922, in Weirton, W.Va., a daughter of Louis and Theodora Tempos Chaldares. She attended schools in West Virginia. Sylvia was an active member of Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, Farrell, where she served as president and secretary of the Ladies Philoptochos Society and was a member of the Friends of the Poor. She was a member of the Hermitage Woman's Club, Garden Club and Golden Agers. Her hobbies included bowling and she had a love for arts and crafts. Her greatest joy was her family. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her husband, Nicholas G. Blavos, whom she married April 27, 1941, passed away March 5, 1998. Sylvia and Nick spent many wonderful years traveling until he became ill. Her love for him was epitomized by the devotion and care she showed while attending to him during his long illness. She is survived by: a daughter, Alice Dinger and her husband Thomas, Greensboro, N.C.; a son, Gus Blavos and his wife Mary, Cleveland; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter. Also surviving is a sister Irene Crist, Fort Pierce, Fla. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Steve Chaldares; and a daughter, Doris Parsenios, Cincinnati, who passed away in September of this year. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
