Obituary

Steven M. Evakich, 83, of Brookfield, OH, passed away suddenly on Monday, October 6, 2025, in Addison Health Care, Masury, OH.

Mr. Evakich was born on October 3, 1942, in Sharon, a son of the late Stephen and Zora (Crniak) Evakich. He was a 1960 graduate of Farrell High School and studied at Thiel College for one year before transferring to Youngstown State University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in business.

Steven worked for more than 10 years at Thiel College as the Associate Director of Admissions. Later, he worked as a generic drug representative, the manager of food services at Grove City College, and, most recently, as a security guard in the oil fields and the Jackson Center Distribution Center.

An avid outdoorsman, Steven loved to go hunting, fishing and camping. He was also heavily involved in men's, women's and youth softball, serving as league commissioner for more than 20 years. Additionally, Steven was vital in introducing the girls' softball program in Hermitage.


He is survived by his wife, the former Peggy Shuttleworth, whom he married on June 9, 1972; a daughter, Barbie Hoffman and her husband, Richard, of Castalia, OH; a son, Jason Evakich, of Hubbard, OH; four grandchildren, Zachary (Shelby) Hoffman, Whitney and Chasity Evakich, and Michenzi  (Danny) Butcher; and five great-grandchildren. Also surviving is a sister, Andrea Gierhart, of Michigan.

In addition to his parents, Steven was preceded in death by a son, Michael Evakich.
