Stephen Richard Perozich, Sr., 1031 Fabian Way, Sharon, passed away unexpectedly of natural causes at 11:09 a.m. Thursday (3-26-09) in the emergency room of Sharon Regional Health System. He was 57.
Mr. Perozich was born March 30, 1951 in McKeesport, PA a son of the late Anthony Valentine Perozich, Sr. and Catherine Frances Skursky Perozich.
He was a 1969 graduate of South Allegheny High School in Liberty Boro, PA and moved to Sharon in 1984.
Steve retired in 2003 from the maintenance department of the Sharon Regional Health System. He was also a PA State Constable in the Mercer County/Sharon district for twelve years.
Steve was a member of St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, Sharon. Steve enjoyed gambling junkets, reading, woodworking, antique cars, fishing and most importantly, loved spending time with his grandchildren. He was an avid Pittsburgh Steeler fan.
Surviving are: his wife at home, the former Sheryl Lee Phillips, whom he married July 10, 1971; a son, Stephen Richard Perozich, Jr. and a daughter, Stephanie Ann Perozich, both Sharon; six grandchildren, Darin, Destynie, Dustin, Stephen III, Dionis-Rose and Catherine; a brother, Anthony Valentine Perozich, Jr. and his wife Loretta, Lincoln Boro, PA; a sister, Catherine Ann Poff and her husband Mark, N. Huntingdon, PA; an aunt and Godmother, Anna Pomocky, Irwin, PA; a brother-in-law, Harold 'Buzz' Phillips and his wife Louise, Glassport, PA; three nephews, Anthony V. Perozich III (who is also his Godson) and his wife Annette; James Phillips and his wife Lisa; and Brian Phillips; two nieces, Susan Griffin and her husband Chuck; and Lauren Poff; as well as great nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles.
Besides his parents, Steve was preceded in death by an infant son.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, 370 Spruce Ave., Sharon, PA 16146; or to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 11454, Alexandria, VA 22312.
Calling hours will be from 1-3 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday (3-29-09) in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon.
Mass of Christian burial will be 1 p.m. Monday (3-30-09) in St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, Sharon, with the Rev. Stanley Swacha, pastor, as celebrant.
Interment: St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Hermitage.
