Stephen A. 'Chinky' Kacerski, 412 Indiana Ave., Farrell, passed away unexpectedly at 3:39 a.m. on Sunday (2-28-10) in the Intensive Care Unit of Sharon Regional Health System following an extended illness. He was 83.
He was born November 28, 1926 in Farrell, Pa. John Sophie Maykowski Kacerski.
A lifelong resident of Farrell, he graduated from Farrell High School in 1945.
He worked at the former Sharon Westinghouse Electric Corporation and later for the United States Postal Service as a letter carrier in the city of Farrell for more than 30 years. In his retirement he returned to Farrell Baking Company where he had worked in his early years.
Mr. Kacerski was a member of St. Adalberts church, Farrell.
He belonged to several clubs throughout the area including the Italian Home, and the Slovak Home, both Farrell; the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge 103, Sharon; the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Hickory Post 6166, Sharon Post 1338, and Farrell post 5286; the American Legion, Post 432, Wheatland, and Post 299, Sharon.
He enjoyed playing bingo and he especially enjoyed taking time to check in and visit with his friends in the hospitals and nursing homes over the years.
A decorated veteran, he served during WWII with the United States Navy aboard the USS Columbus and was honorably discharged from active duty on July 6, 1946.
He leaves his wife, the former Margaret 'Peggy' Bowman whom he married on June 18, 1949.
He also leaves his daughter Stephanie, wife of Larry Donnarummo, Hermitage; and his son, Gary S. Kacerski, Tampa, FL; four grandchildren, Jeremy A. Kacerski, Salvatore R., Tina Maria, and Steven L. Donnarummo, one great granddaughter, Jamariza A. Kacerski; one brother, John Kaye, Punta Gorda, Fl.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a granddaughter, Tabitha Maria Donnarummo, three brothers, Edward Kacerski, Cashimer 'Kay Brown' Kacerski, and Matthew 'Matches' Kacerski.
As a memorial to Chinky, The family suggest in lieu of flowers to please take the time to make that visit to a family member or friend and bring a little happiness to someone you care about.
Calling hours: 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday (3-3-10) in the J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory Inc. 1090 E. State St. Sharon. A Rosary will be recited prior to the visitation at 3:30 by the St. Adalberts Prayer Group.

Services: A procession will leave the funeral home at 10:00 a.m. Thursday (3-4-10) for the Mass of Christian burial that will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. in St. Adalberts Church at with Rev. Daniel J. Kresinski, pastor as celebrant.
Interment: Holy Cross Cemetery, Hermitage with full military honors provided by the honor guard from the West Middlesex Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6233, and the Wheatland American Legion Post 432.
