He was a very active member of the YMCA, where he enjoyed playing racquetball, exercising, and spending time with friends. Stephen also bowled in several leagues throughout his life and was formerly an active member of the Slovak Club, KP Club, and Polish Falcons.

Always proud of his Polish heritage, Stephen traveled extensively to Polish festivals and polkas, especially the annual Polish Festival held at Seven Springs Resort.
