Dr. Stephen T. Bencetic of Mansfield, PA, formerly of Sharon, PA, passed away at 5:35 a.m. Monday, December 5, 2016, in West Brandywine Twp., PA. He was 92.
Dr. Bencetic was born November 20, 1924, in Farrell, PA, a son of Ignac and Tereza Rataic Bencetic.
A graduate of Sharon High School, he earned his bachelor's degree from Youngstown State University; his master's degree from the University of Iowa; and his doctorate from Penn State University. Dr. Bencetic was a professor of Art History at Mansfield (PA) University for nearly 40 years.
He was a member of Holy Child Catholic Church, Mansfield, and a former member of St. Anthony's Church, Sharon.
Stephen was a 4 th degree member of the Knights of Columbus. His wife, the former Barbara Bencetich, passed away in 1993.
Surviving are: two daughters, Teresa Courter and her husband James, Raleigh, NC; and Laurie Bencetic, Milford, PA; a son, Stephen Bencetic and his wife Sherry, Odessa, FL; and a sister, Anna Matuk, Hermitage.
Besides his wife, Stephen was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, James Bencetic.
There are no calling hours.
Funeral Mass will be at noon today, December 7, 2016, in St. Anthony's Church, Sharon, with Rev. Joseph Campbell, pastor, as celebrant.
