Stella K. Leftheris, 156 Orchard St., Sharon, PA passed away peacefully at 8:20 p.m. Thursday (1-29-09) in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System following an extended illness. She was 87.
Mrs. Leftheris was born October 19, 1921 in Vandergrift, PA the daughter of Haralampos 'Harry' Kariotis and Katherine Mavroyanis Kariotis. She attended schools in Vandegrift.
Over a span of 43 years, Stella and her husband, owned and operated the Cantene Restaurant, the Dinner Bell Restaurant and the Capitol Café, all Sharon. She retired in 1986.
She was a member of the Greek Annunciation Orthodox Church, Farrell and President of its Philotochos Society.
Stella loved to host family get-togethers and baking and cooking were her hobbies.
She is survived by her husband, Pete N. Leftheris, whom she married July 17, 1938.
Also surviving are two daughters, Toula Hardesty and her husband, John 'Jack', Hermitage and Katherine 'Katie' Mesogitis, Hermitage; three sons, Nicholas Leftheris, Sharon, Harry Leftheris, Masury and Pete Leftheris, Jr. Leavittsburg, OH; one brother, Anthony Kariotis and his wife Angeline, Tallmadge, OH and Patricia Tranto and her husband John, Boardman; 13 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Angela Solakakis and an infant son, Nicholas Leftheris.
In lieu of flowers the family request memorial donations be made to the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 1007 Washington St., Farrell, PA 16121
Calling hours: 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday (2-1-09) 2008 in the J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. State Street, Sharon. Trisagion service at 7:30 p.m.
Services: Funeral service at 1:00 p.m. Monday (2-2-09) in Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, Farrell, with the Rev. Ignatious Apostolopoulos, pastor, officiating.
Interment: Oakwood Cemetery, Hermitage.
