Stella Calvert of New Castle, PA, formerly of Jackson Ave. in New Castle, passed away in the morning on February 15, 2009 at Avalon Nursing Center. She was 85.
Mrs. Calvert was born in New Castle, PA. on September 2, 1923, a daughter of Martin and Mary Dudek Gorski.
She was a 1942 graduate of New Castle High School.
In her early years, Stella was employed at Shenango China as a supervisor. She was a homemaker later on in life.
Mrs. Calvert was a member of the Alter Society of the former SS Phillip & James Church, The Silver Threads, Widows Club of St. Joseph the Worker Church, Polish Women's Society Group #314, and ran countless bus trips to Atlantic City, Myrtle Beach, and Branson, Missouri.
Her husband, Robert Joseph Calvert, whom she married May 25, 1946, passed away on January 22, 1980.
She is survived by: 4 sons, Robert and his wife Jean Calvert, Ronald and his wife Colleen Calvert, Daniel and his wife Janice Calvert, and Thomas Calvert all of New Castle, PA; a sister, Regina and her husband Ronald Shebek of New Castle; 7 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; husband; 3 sisters, Cecelia Garczewski, Jane Szelest, and Helen Petro.
Calling hours will be on Tuesday, February 17, 2009 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. 111 W. Falls St. New Castle, PA
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph The Worker Church on Wednesday, February 18, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Robert Schweitzer officiating.
A procession will leave the funeral home at 9:30 a.m.
Internment will be in SS Phillip and James Cemetery.
