Stanley C. Kuzniar, 418 New Castle Rd., Farrell, passed away at 6:33 p.m. Thursday (6-10-10) in UPMC Horizon, Greenville, after a brief illness. He was 86.
Mr. Kuzniar was born Nov. 9, 1923 in Farrell a son of the late Andrew and Eva Gradzilla Kuzniar.
He was a 1941 graduate of Farrell High School.
Stan retired on June 1, 1986 from the U.S. Postal Service, Sharon, where he was employed as a clerk for 31 years.
He was a member of the former St. Ann's Church and the VFW, Post 5286, both Farrell.
Stan served with the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Rockaway attaining the rank of Yeoman 2C Petty Office and participated in the D-Day invasion on June 6, 1944. Following the Japanese surrender, he was assigned to the Bureau of Naval Personnel in Arlington, VA. in the demobilization central control unit. He was honorably discharged on April 5, 1946 and was the recipient of the European Theater Ribbon with one star; the American Theater Ribbon; the Victory Medal; and the Good Conduct Ribbon.
Surviving are: his wife of 61 years, the former Ann M. Frank, whom he married November 27, 1948 in the former St. Elizabeth Church, Farrell; a son, Timothy W. Kuzniar and his wife Darien, Highlands Ranch, Colorado; a sister, Dorothy Melone and her husband Americo, Masury, Ohio; a brother, Theodore Kuzniar and his wife Nancy, Hubbard Township, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Stanley was preceded in death by four sisters, Stella Mazur, Sophie Santell, Helen Murcko and Frances Stelachick; and a brother, Edward Kuzniar.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
