Obituary

Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday for Sophie A. Nogay, 1145 Charles St., Sharon, who passed away peacefully of natural causes at 10:50 a.m. on Thursday (3-26-09) in UPMC Horizon Hospital, Greenvile, following a brief illness. She was 85.
She was born on May 21, 1923 in Farrell, Pa., the daughter of Joseph and Josephine Kunkiewicz Matuk.
Sophie was a familiar face at the former Metz Bakery on Division Street in Sharon where she worked for more than 25 years.
An active member of St. Adalbert's Church in Farrell, she was a member and treasurer of the church's Altar Rosary Society, a member of its Infant Jesus of Prague Society, and she enjoyed making pierogi with the Family Club at the church.
Her life was centered around her church and family and her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren.
Her husband, Joseph F. Nogay, Sr., whom she married August 20, 1949, passed away July 2, 1991.
She leaves her two sons, Robert 'Bob' Nogay, of Hermitage, and Joseph F. Nogay and his wife Nancy of Howland Twp., OH; a sister Natalie Hauck of Howell, Michigan; three grandchildren, Peter and Christian Nogay, and Lauren Nogay.
She was preceded in death by her four brothers, Joseph and John Ciesielski, Edward and Casimir Matuk, a sister, Bertha Matuk, and one daughter-in-law Cathy Nogay.
Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to St. Adalberts Church, 1035 Fruit Ave. Farrell.
Calling hours: 3 -6 p.m. on Sunday (3-29-09) in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon. A vigil service will be held at 2:30 p.m. and the St. Adalbert's prayer group will recite the Rosary at 2:45 p.m. on Sunday in the funeral home prior to calling hours.
Services: Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday (3-30-09) at 10:00 a.m. in St. Adalbert's Church with Rev. Daniel J. Kresinski, pastor as celebrant. A brief prayer service will be held at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home prior to leaving for the church.
Interment: Holy Cross Cemetery, Hermitage.
