Obituary

Sophie Wlodarczyk Bukus of Hermitage, formerly of Daley Road, Jefferson Township, passed away at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2013, in Nugent Convalescent Home, Hermitage, where she was a resident for the past four years. She was 100. Mrs. Bukus was born May 6, 1913, in Farrell, a daughter of Adam and Victoria Gladyz Drapola. She was a lifelong resident of Jefferson Township, where she attended a one-room schoolhouse. A homemaker, she was a member of St. Joseph's Church, Sharon. Sophie grew up on the family farm in Jefferson Township, which she and her husband, Bill, farmed for many years. She was also an avid flower and vegetable gardener. Early in life, she worked as a coil winder at the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp. and later for Kelley's Greenhouse in Sharpsville and Kraynak's in Hermitage. Sophie was a charter member of the Jefferson Township Civic League. She enjoyed bowling and was a 54-year member of the Polish National Alliance League at Thornton Hall Lanes, Sharon, and a member of the Senior Citizens League at Hickory Bowl, Hermitage. Her first husband, William Wlodarczyk, whom she married June 14, 1930, passed away May 4, 1972. Her second husband of 18 years, John Bukus, also preceded her in death. Surviving are: two daughters, Irene Chaussard, and Sylvia Votino and her companion Dick Kovacs, all Jefferson Township; a brother, Fred Drapola, a resident of St. Paul's, West Salem Township, formerly of Mercer; four grandchildren; 10 greatgrandchildren; eight greatgreat--grandchildren; a brother- in-law, Nicholas Bayer, Jefferson Township; and a granddaughter-in-law, Linda Chaussard, Mercer. Besides her husbands, Sophie was preceded in death by two sisters, Vera Gotch and Stella Bayer; two brothers, Albert and Joseph Drapola; a grandson, David Chaussard; two sons-in-law, John Votino and Jack Chaussard; and a sister-in-law, Edna Drapola. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to St. Joseph's Church, 79 Case Ave., Sharon, PA 16146. Service: Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. Monday in the church with Monsignor Casimir Bogniak, senior associate, as celebrant. Interment: St. Rose Cemetery, Hermitage.
