Sonya was born Oct. 18, 1942, in Bayonne, N.J., a daughter of James and Sylvia Taubman Baker. She graduated at the early age of 16 from Sharon High School. Following high school, she began working as a dance instructor for the former Fred Astaire Studio in downtown Sharon. Sonya was a pioneer for women, as she was the first journeyman/ journeywoman electrician to work at both the former Sharon Steel Corp. in Farrell and at the Ford Motor Co. She was a pet lover and an expert gardener; her home was adorned with numerous roses that flourished around it. After complications from her second stroke, it was Sonya's wish to receive no further medical intervention. She is survived by: her husband, Joseph Gump; her four loving children, Paul G. Churlik and his wife, Barbara, Poland, Ohio; Nadine Antos and her husband, Steven, Indianapolis; Adrianne Bone and her husband, Andrew, Prospect, Ohio; and Andrew J. Churlik, Lancaster, Pa; and seven grandchildren, James, William and Daniel Strang; Amanda and Ryan Churlik; and Shannon and Spencer Antos. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Joan Wilcox. Her family would like to thank Dr. J. Joseph and his caring staff for their loving care and for keeping Sonya well for so many years; it was truly appreciated.
