Obituary

Simon Mirkovich, Webster St., Farrell, Pa. passed away peacefully at 1:25 a.m. in St. Elizabeth's Hospital, Youngstown following an extended illness. He was 87.

He was born at home on July 7, 1923 in Farrell the son of Nicholas and Mary Misinay Mirkovich.

He started his education at Eckles Elementary School in Farrell before his family moved to Pittsburgh where he then transferred to Frick middle school and later Schenley High School. He later moved back to Farrell in 1942 and graduated from Farrell High School in 1944.

He began working his junior year of high school at the former Sharon Transformer division of the Westinghouse Electric Corporation in the work shop. At the same time he began taking classes at Penn State that where held at Sharon High School and were sponsored thru Westinghouse. He quickly moved from the Name plate division to the Drafting Department and worked as a Computer Aid Draftsman and retired in October of 1984 with 42 years of service. He was a long time member of the Westinghouse Retirees Association.

He was a long standing member of St. George Serbian Orthodox Church in both Farrell and at its current Hermitage location. Having been a craftsman at an early age, he constructed the former alter at the Farrell church in 1958 that stayed in use until the closing of the church. He also served as a Sunday School teacher and belonged to the Jedinstvo Men's Club, the Serbian Singing Society Vioslav Ilich Choir and the Old Drena Orchestra. He also was a member of the Building Committee during the construction of the new church in Hermitage. At the age of 2 Simon was already an active member of what is now the Serbian National Fraternal Lodge # 68 where he later was given the responsibility of heading up the Auditing board. He served as Vice President of the former Shenango Valley Orthodox Men's Society.

He was a long time member of the former Serbian Home and their Athletic Club, and the former Russian Club, both Farrell. He also belonged to the Sharon Steel Men's Chorus and was a charter member of the Shenango Valley Chorale both under the direction of the Late William Blough.

His wife the former Helen M. Bartko whom he married on May 22, 1955 in St. George Serbian Orthodox Church in Farrell by the late Fr. Suka, survives at home.

He also leaves his three sons, Paul Mirkovich and his wife Carol, Nicholas Mirkovich and his fiancé Michelle Russelburg, all of Farrell, and Samuel Mirkovich and his wife Catherine, Hermitage; a brother George Mirkovich and his wife Helen of Beaver, Pa; two grandchildren who were the joy of his life, Michael and Lauren; and many nephews, nieces, their spouses and children, and one Godchild and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents,and a sister Ann Milankovich and her husband Boris.

Services: Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday (8-25-10) in St. George Serbian Orthodox Church, Hermitage, with Rev. Milovan Z. Katanic, pastor, and Msgr. Michael Polanichka, pastor of St. John's Carpatho-Russian Orthodox Church co officiating . A procession will leave the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday (4-8-10) for Eugenia 'Jennie' M. Misik, 322 Woodland Ave., Farrell, Pa., who passed away peacefully at 9:17 p.m. Saturday (4-3-10) in the hospitalof St. Elizabeth's Health Center, Youngstown, of natural causes surrounded by her family. She was 90.

Mrs. Misik was born on August 3, 1919 in Farrell, Pa., the daughter of George and Lena Coros Moldovan.

She graduated from Farrell High School in 1937.

A homemaker, she was a long time member of St. Ann's Church in Farrell and belonged to their Altar Society. She also was a "longtimer" in the Thursday Noon Al-Anon Family Group. She enjoyed crocheting, reading, bowling, playing cards and walking at the mall.

Her husband Michael J. Misik whom she married on July 9, 1944, passed away on October 8, 1996.

She is survived by her two daughters, Linda Stanton and her husband Edward and Helaine Ferringer and her husband Howard, all of Hermitage, and one son Michael 'Jerry' Misik and his wife Kay, Tega Cay, S.C. and her 10 grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Ann Crompton, and three brothers, George, Charles, and Sam Moldovan.

Memorial Contributions may be made in her memory to the Prince of Peace Center 502 Darr Ave Farrell, Pa. 16121.

Services: Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday (4-8-10) at 10:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Fatima-St. Ann's Church, 601 Roemer Blvd., Farrell, with Rev. Donald E. Berdis, pastor of the church as celebrant. A brief prayer service will be held at 9:45 a.m. in the funeral home prior to leaving for the church.
