Shirley Mae Stafford, 72, of Farrell passed away unexpectedly with family at her side Sunday afternoon, January 21, 2024.

Ms. Stafford was born December 21, 1951, in Sharon, a daughter of the late Harold and Mary (Nych) Downing, and was a 1969 graduate of Hickory High School, Hermitage.

Shirley had worked various retail sales and management jobs throughout her life, but most importantly, loved being a stay-at-home mother while caring for her three children.

Shirley was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church of Sharpsville where she served as the church organist for nearly 16 years.

She loved spending time outdoors, especially while fishing and hiking at Cook Forest or the family cabin near Bradford, PA. Shirley also enjoyed photography and was an accomplished singer.

Shirley is survived by two daughters, Melissa Lanham, Jeffersonville, IN, and Rachael Bender, Sharon; a son, Ben Fustos (Megan), Farrell; a sister, Carolyn Graham, Warren, OH; a brother, James Downing, Hermitage, PA; six grandchildren, Kat, Ava, Lili, Charitee, Madalynn, and Joseph. She also leaves behind her longtime life partner, Tim Veres, with whom she made her home.

In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by a sister, Lois Cox; and a grandson, Alexander Bender.
