Shirley M. Plyler, 78, of Youngstown passed away the evening of Monday, Feb. 8, 2016, at St. Elizabeths Hospital, following a five-month battle with cancer.
Shirley was born in New Castle on April 13, 1937, a daughter of the late George H. and Dorothy Bannon Burns.
She was a graduate of New Castle High School.
Shirley worked at several local clubs and restaurants, waitressing and tending bar throughout the years, as well as working as a personal caretaker.
In her spare time she enjoyed reading.
Shirley is survived by two daughters, Rhonda Flores of Texas and Kristi Henson and her husband, James, of Austintown, Ohio; two sons, Steve Plyler and his wife, Amy, of New Castle and Michael Plyler of Unity, Ohio; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Dorothy Wilson of Mercer.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, two sisters and her stepfather, David Campbell.
All services will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made in Shirley's name to the American Cancer Society of Lawrence County, 3208-B Wilmington Road, New Castle, Pa. 16105.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory Inc., 111 W. Falls St.
