Shirley A. Dunn of Wheatland passed away at
7:35 a.m.
Christmas day, Dec. 25, 2015, in her home under hospice care, after an extended illness.
She was 83.
Mrs. Dunn was born May 21, 1932, in Farrell, a daughter of Wilbur P. and Mary L. Lewis Smiley.
She was a lifelong area resident and a 1950 graduate of Farrell High School.
Shirley was employed by the US Postal Service in Wheatland for more than 30 years and retired as its Postmaster in 1995.
She was affiliated with the Wheatland-Farrell United Methodist Church.
Shirley was a Cleveland Brown season ticket holder for many years and loved attending their games with her son, Jim.
She also enjoyed traveling throughout the country with her special niece, Marilynn Moss.
Her favorite destination was San Diego, CA.
Surviving are: a niece, Marilynn Moss and her husband Noel, Sharon; a nephew, Allen Altham, Hermitage; two grandchildren, Alex and Evan Dunn, both Wheatland; and a great niece and nephew.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; a son, James R. Dunn, Jr.; and two sisters, Olive Altham and Elizabeth "Betty" Vaughn.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Mercer County Humane Society, 3005 E. State St., Hermitage, PA 16148 or to a charity of the donor's choice.
There are no calling hours.
Memorial service will be
2 p.m.
Saturday, Jan. 9, 2016, in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon.
Interment: St. Mary's Cemetery, Hermitage.
