Shawn William McCune

Shawn William McCune, 48, of Gainesville, FL, formerly a longtime resident of New Wilmington, PA, passed away on Sunday, September 6, 2026.

Shawn was born on July 15, 1978, in New Castle, PA, a son of W. Gary and Christine A. (Reinhard) McCune. A 1996 graduate of Wilmington Area High School, he later earned a bachelor’s degree in geology from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania.

For many years, Shawn worked as a project manager for several companies, specializing in environmental science and waste management.

Shawn was of the Catholic faith and received his sacraments of initiation at St. Mary’s Church in New Castle.

A talented artist, he was an exceptional guitar player and enjoyed playing bluegrass music.

In addition to his parents, Shawn is survived by his wife, Cynthia Grow, of Gainesville, FL; two brothers, Chad L. McCune, of New Castle, and Brett R. McCune (Katie), of Neshannock Twp.; two nephews, Jack McCune and Weston McCune; several aunts and uncles; and numerous cousins.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Betty and Bill McCune; and maternal grandparents, Eileen M. and Carl F. Reinhard.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 9 a.m. on Saturday, November 7, 2026, in St. Camillus Church, 314 W. Englewood Ave., New Castle, with Very Rev. Joseph R. McCaffrey, as celebrant.
